It is one thing to study the History of the DSE, and especially the action in Grammos and Vitsi, and another thing to combine the knowledge of the History of the DSE, its life and action, with a book and a map in hand, next to and on top of the trenches where History was written. To have before you not only the historical documents and recorded memories, but also the space where they took place, the theater of battles, the distances, all those living signs that compose the epic of the DSE.

It is no exaggeration to admit that only under such conditions can one approach and realize the titanic clash that occurred between two radically different armies, between two radically different worlds.

This guide does not aim to write the history of the DSE, but to contribute to its approach and study, mainly through the description of the space.

In its pages, the unique beauties of the area are intertwined with the beauties of the struggle, helping its users to find their own way of getting to know the modern history of the area and a large part of the history of the DSE, which have become inseparably identified. The publication is dedicated to the fighters of the Democratic Army of Greece.
